DC had only 130 to chase in Sharjah but were set back when they lost their top order within the powerplay overs.
“I felt really amazing to bat through and take my team through. It was a low-scoring game. I backed myself and my instincts. I knew I would win the game for the team,” said Iyer after the match.Wickets fell around but Iyer stayed calm and finally found a steady partner in Ravichandran Ashwin. “He came in and was really positive. He wanted to take singles, and that went to the last two overs. He decided he would take the bowlers on during the last two overs,” said Iyer.IPL: RR vs CSK Live | MI vs DC HighlightsThe pair put up an unbeaten 39-run stand off 36 balls for the seventh wicket, with Iyer ending the game on 33 off as many balls and Ashwin on 20 off 21. With four runs needed in the last over, Ashwin hit the first ball for six to take DC over the line.”The transition in the last two years has happened. Since 2019, we have shifted that towards our team. We try to implement that within the dressing room. We try to be humble, and we try to ensure whoever’s day it is, he makes sure the team wins the game,” he said.Iyer, who led DC to a runners-up position last season, said that the team is determined to finish within the top two so that they have a better shot at reaching a final again. “Once we are in these close games, we have to finish them. Every two points matter. If we finish in the top two, we have that opportunity to play that one game and make the final,” he said.Click here for our site’s complete coverage of the coronavirus pandemic.
